On Thursday 22nd November 2018 I attended a Service of Thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey with colleagues from CIBSE to celebrate The Year of Engineering 2018.

Inkling at Building Simulation and Optimisation 2018 Conference

I represented Inkling at the Building Simulation and Optimisation 2018 Conference at Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge on 11-12 September. I was able to attend two of the three keynote sessions, the first was from Dr Penny Carey of Portakabin on “Meeting the challenges of improving building standards within the construction industry”. This engaging presentation

There may be trouble ahead

Claire has contributed an article to the RICS Property Journal. The article discusses the effect of the upcoming Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) Regulations on commercial rent reviews and lease renewals.

Inkling respond

We were asked by the CIBSE Journal to respond to a recent Telegraph article that criticised the modelling community and pointing the finger at us for the performance gap. Our response was printed in the June edition and we’ve reproduced it below.

We have a new Inkling!

Inkling are proud to announce the arrival of Claire’s new baby. Sara Das Bhaumik arrived safely on Friday (25/9/2015). Yay!!   Claire will be on maternity leave for the next few months. She will check emails from time to time, but please direct anything urgent to Susie.

What has #BuildingPhysics ever done for us?

last month we travelled to Leeds to give a presentation to CIBSE Yorkshire entitled ‘What has Building Physics ever done for us?’.   We had a marvellous time, and Simon Owen kindly created a Storify for the event. https://storify.com/CalibreSimon/what-has-building-physics-ever-done-for-us?utm_campaign=website&utm_source=email&utm_medium=email   You can see our presentation (the first one we’ve done in Prezi) here: https://prezi.com/i5eoyhuoyul8/what-has-building-physics-ever-done-for-us/?utm_campaign=share&utm_medium=copy

New CIBSE publication on Integrated School Design

CIBSE have recently published TM57 Integrated School Design. This document covers various design aspects for schools such as thermal comfort, acoustics, daylighting, air quality and ventilation.   It states:   “Teaching and learning spaces pose a great challenge to designers and engineers as the environmental needs are more complex than with most rooms. The challenge

Inkling @ #CIBSESymposium 2015

At Inkling both Susie and Claire made contributions to the organising of the CIBSE Technical Symposium 2015. We were keen to attend the two-day event event at UCL, and have taken this opportunity to write up and share our experience of it.   Sergio Fox (Architecture without Engineers) opened the event with an interesting and entertaining

Inkling co-author new Zero Carbon Hub publication on overheating

Claire and Susie have recently co-authored a new Zero Carbon Hub publication ‘Assessing Overheating Risk – Evidence Review’, which was launched at EcoBuild 2015.   This Evidence Review forms part of a wider evidence gathering exercise being conducted by the Zero Carbon Hub for the ‘Tackling Overheating in Homes’ project. It provides a summary of

Inkling Blog #3: Closing the Building Performance Gap

Our last Blog identified a number of ‘Performance Gaps’ caused by a wide spectrum of conceptual and quality issues ranging from a lack of clarity in the industry regarding building performance criteria to poor build quality on site.   So, what can we do to close these gaps?   As engineers, modellers and designers we

Fine Tuning

Claire has written an article for the Oct 2014 CIBSE Journal on our experience of using TM54. http://portfolio.cpl.co.uk/CIBSE/201410/energy-performance-tm54-review/ CIBSE TM54: Evaluating Operational Energy Performance of Buildings at the Design Stage (2013) was designed to close the performance gap by enabling more accurate modelling of building performance, but how effective is it in the field?
